چکیده

Objective: To analyze the genetic polymorphisms of the cytochrome P450 family and their relationship with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx. Methods: We present a narrative literature review, conducted in Pubmed, Lilacs and Cochrane Databases of articles published in the last five years correlating genetic polymorphisms of the cytochrome P450 family and cancer risk in different populations worldwide. Results: We initially found 65 articles and, after selection criteria, 20 casecontrol studies with various populations worldwide were eligible. The most studied polymorphisms were those of CYP2E1 and CYP1A1 subfamilies. There is little about the other subfamilies. The association found between polymorphisms and cancer risk amounted to a countless number of variables, amongst them: population, selection methods, racial factors and different modes of exposure to carcinogens, genotyping methods, and nomenclature of the polymorphisms. Conclusion: so far, there is no proven link between genetic polymorphisms of cytochrome P450 family and squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx

4NQO Carcinogenesis: A Model of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Carcinogenesis Inducida por 4NQO: Un Modelo de Carcinoma Oral de Células Escamosas

The development of malignant neoplasms -including the oral canceris a complex process, and for their understanding animal models of carcinogenesis that accurately represent the cellular and molecular changes associated with initiation and progression of human oral cancer have been deployed (Rivera et al., 2011), from normal tissues to pathological conditions, which are then capable of being ana...

Detection of Apoptosis in Leukoplakia and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma using Methyl Green Pyronin and Hematoxylin and Eosin

Background & Objective: Cell population and turnover are controlled by a balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis. Detection of apoptosis in oral cancer contributes to its better prognosis and improved management. This study aimed to quantify apoptotic cells in leukoplakia and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using methyl green-pyronin (MGP) and hematoxylin and eosin...

Role of EGFR Gene Polymorphisms in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma patients of Southeast of Iran: A Case-Control Study

Background: The decisive etiology of Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)  is still ambiguous, but we recognize the contribution of genetic aberration and environmental agent due to OSCC initiation. In the current study, we elucidate the potential impact of EGFR gene polymorphisms in the risk of OSCC in the southeast of Iran. Methods: Forty-eight OSCC patients along with 100 normal volunteers w...
